The Room With No Photos
A basement night with a phones-down policy, and what happens to a crowd when nobody is performing for a camera.
The rule is printed on a piece of A4 taped to the door: no phones past this point. Nobody argues.
Inside, three hundred people move like they aren't being watched, because for once they aren't. There is no footage of this night. You had to be there, which used to be the only way anything existed.
We talked to the organisers about why they keep it small when they could sell four times the tickets. The answer was blunt: scale kills the feeling.
